DIY measuring stick

So I have been telling my kids that I would create something special for them to keep marking their heights and dates as they grow. Something to replace the age old markings on the wall, and something to keep passing along in the family for generations to come. If you know me, you know that I am NOT going to go out and buy something. So this week I found myself on a bit of a lock down due to what us locals around my city have affectionately named "Snowpocalypse 2014". Just a little bit of snow for people who are used to having it every year. But it cripples Atlanta when it does hit us(2-3inches!)...lol Anyway, here is what I made, and what we will screw on the wall for them this week after we repaint the hallway. It was real easy to do, a few cuts from some leftover plywood, and some paint, and voila!

Art Basel 2013

So I was fortunate enough to go down to Miami this weekend and experience Art Basel for the first time. A conglomerate of amazing artists descend on South Florida every year the first week in Dec and leave some amazing murals all around the city. There is also Art Basel Beach in Collins park. Gallery shows ALL OVER the place and enough events that will have your head spinning. This event will def be the first thing going on my calender for 2014, and hopefully between now and then I can work out painting a mural with some artists I have met on IG and FB. Anyway enjoy some of my pics from an amazing weekend...

New Year, New works

Well it's February and 2014 is off and running. I recently finished my first piece of the New Year which happens to be another art envelope. I sent it to my sister who recently relocated to Costa Mesa California. It is an interpretation of Roy Lichtenstein's "Pistol" and delves into the psyche of the violence riddled country of Mexico and the grip that drug cartels seem to have on it. Here's how it turned out.

Halloween Piece

So Halloween just passed, and I had already sketched out a piece to paint. Coincidentally I almost didnt get a chance to paint it but decided at the last minute to go ahead and do it so I wouldnt regret not having done it. It was a quickie, and much smaller then I wanted to paint it but it didn't turn out so bad.

iPhone/iPod case design

Here is a pic of a recent commission job I finished. It was done for a South Carolina Gamecock fan. Hand drawn lettering scanned, cleaned up and added to photo. I like how it turned out.

Back to my roots

I'm a graff writer. Wait, I know what you might be saying, "oh he's a vandal", or "a tagger", or even "he's a street artist"(btw street art and graffiti are 2 totally different things, but we'll save that for another time); coincidentally I am also a street artist. But there is more to this art that I grew up learning from some amazing people I got to hang out with in Southern California. It's been a while since I picked up a can for a piece, but lately I have been missing it. So when this truck came in to the scrap yard I work at, I asked if I could paint it. My employers were gracious enough to oblige. Here are some progress pics, and I should be done in the next few days. enjoy!

Art Envelopes

Here's another art envelope I sent out a short time ago. I wanted to wait until it reached its new owner before posting it. It's pop in nature with a more modern urban twist as I gave the lips a gold grill.

Sneaker Pimp

A while back I was honored to be a part of an art fundraiser/silent auction in Cali(my home state) to raise money for a young man and his medical bills. While I was unable to attend the event, I was however able to send them a piece that I have not shared until now. I decided to paint a pair of sneakers which were donated by a local Athletes Foot owner. Here are progress pics and the final results of how they turned out. I painted a piece by one of my all time favorite artists Van Gogh, the piece is called "Young Wheat Fields". Enjoy, and....

Signs

I recently finished a few signs for several businesses in the city I live for barter. Two for a hairstylist and another for a massage therapist. Here are the 2 relatively small signs I finished a few weeks ago.

Upcycle! Doorknobs as hooks

Good morning! So last week I was thinking of ways I could create more organization for my girls and their backpacks/jackets for school in the house, besides thrown on a chair or floor. I see allot of doors, and have painted allot of them as well. So it struck me, why not re-purpose doorknobs as hooks! Aha! Sooo, since I had a few doors at the house that no longer needed their respective knobs I confiscated them and ended up with this!

The Silent Pill(reprogramming)

Television has long been nick named "The Idiot box" by generations before me. They kill motivation, inspiration(for the most part) and only wish to drain you of critical thinking and and self thought. The messages on most programs is one of depression, sadness, and an underlying of demoralization. Without even thinking about it you waste hours in front of it, while it tells you how to think, what to think, and even WHEN to think. Turn it off! Go outside and put your feet in the grass and your head to the sun, feel the cool breeze on a sunny spring afternoon, go to a park and sketch. The message here is simple, take something that normally is so loud about NOTHING positive, and give it a twist. A ninja is silent in what he does, and normally can not be seen as he is the stealthiest of the kung fu/martial art disciplines. Without even knowing it, this message is seen and processed on sleepy urban/suburban streets and you are ultimately injected with something of a positive nature. My intention is to get people to think about simply LOVING more, in more ways, and more often!....
